5 Kitchen Tips Gordon Ramsay Lives By

1. Season in layers, not at the end. Salt the onions, salt the meat, salt the sauce. If you wait until the plate, it tastes flat.

2. Don't crowd the pan. You want sear, not steam. Give that steak or scallop space or you'll boil it grey.

3. Taste constantly. Your spoon is your best tool. Taste, adjust, taste again. Chefs who don't taste are guessing.

4. Keep your knives sharp. A dull knife is dangerous and it mangles food. Hone it every service.

5. Rest the meat. You just cooked it at 400°F — let it relax 5 minutes. Cut too early and all the juice runs onto the board, not in your mouth.
